Spring blooms

Front door screen. Replaced screen and duct tape cut outs for handle and hook and eye 

soapwort and rosemary with the roses. Yes, I need to pull the weeds out of the garden when it's not raining.


I put a new screen on the front screen door that we put a metal screen on the outside.  Took awhile to get the thing up and put duct tape on the parts I needed to cut for the handle and one of the eye hooks.

Now I'm trying a new meatloaf recipe, that was a little work. In a way it was good that I had to keep moving to get ingredients, just standing somewhere really begins to hurt, moving was better.

It sneaks up on me. The back and leg constantly hurt and doing any kind of house and yard work aggrevates the pain.  Argh

I've been working on my embroidery project and not much writing. Have to get back into both at the same time.

screen doors and cats

We made the decision to keep the cats inside when we took in the rescue cat Gypsy, her two children and the twins. We lost so many 2 years ago to a virus and there are new dogs in the area.  Jackie also saw a coyote run across out backyard in fall.

We have the screened in back porch so they're able to get fresh air and watch the birds, squirrels and rabbits. And the roaming cats that come to visit: Henry, OJ and two stubby tailed cats. 

It warmed up for a few days last week and we wanted the front door open for air circulation.  The cats were accustomed to moving the loose screen and jumping over the bottom part of the door and coming and going as they wanted. 

How to keep them in?

I decided to look around at Home Depot and see if I could find a metal mesh, grate or screen to go over the screen door without costing a lot and that wouldn't impede air flow.

Most of the metal screens were a bit heavy and our screen door is a very cheap one that's pretty flimsy.  I kept looking and found an answer, I was in the concrete area and saw wire mesh that contractors put down to help reinforce concrete and one of the screens was very interesting (and it was 6ft long.  $7 wasn't bad either, the stuff is light and bends easily (good thing, I had to curve it to get it in the car. 

Jackie and I used the tin snips to cut pieces to fit on our screen door. We used a staple gun and I added another hook n eye at the bottom of the door to keep the cats from pushing the door open enough to get out.  Then I put one on the basement door so they can't pull that open as well.

I'm going to put new screening on the door as well.  Not the most professional looking but it'll work - that Southern ingenuity seems to run in the family.

Progress and Cats

I had help making my bed this morning and he let us know we are NOT to throw away a perfectly good shoe box and his sister helped us take down the canvas that separates rooms in the winter

I'm making progress on my EGA on my jacket.  I'll go over it with 2strand thread to fill in small gaps after the first round is done.

Spring is springing

Two days ago we were in sweatshirts - today I'm in shorts and sandals.  Working on cleaning the living room, it'll take longer than I'd hope because I'm doing deep cleaning but a little at a time.  I swept and deep mopped the kitchen today and strained that damned shoulder again.  Sucks

There's a lot more to do, of course but we'll try and chip at it a little at a bit.

Rearrange

Jackie decided to switch her room around, that took a couple of days with these disabled bodies!  We're going to move the "green" dresser into her room.  That will be a very big deal - it's Mom's dresser since I was 8 or 9.  Maybe with that being moved and with Jackie using it, it will give us the incentive to go through the craft room. It's more than time.

I had to move my bed - even with the vent closed air still comes through.  Jackie gets up an hour or two before I do and she turns on the heat (rightly so, not complaining about that).  I get really warm, get uncomfortable and my sleep is broken and I usually get up and drag through the day.  Okay, where to move the bed and some pieces of furniture without moving the two hanging guitars (they are a pain in the a** to do).

If I move "x" I have to move "a" and that means "b" has to be moved.....

So everything had to be moved in my room and I didn't want to try and pull everything out of the room.  Got it done in one day and spent the last few days putting things in a better order and throwing a lot of things out.  I need to go through the closet again.  The room feels okay.

 This is what you get when you move stuff in my room!  The cloth hanging on the wall with a top hat is my tallit - Jewish prayer shawls (the hat isn't part of that! LOL) next to that is my electric guitar.  The skull is where I place my kippah (yarmulke).

 Had to move the large Alice Cooper poster.  I got it hung up and it fell, breaking the frame.  I got things back in place and had to come up with a way of fixing it.  When in doubt whip the duct tape out!  I taped the ends in both directions and ran thin strips all the way to the top of the frame to reinforce the bottom.  I took a Sharpie and made the gray tape black. You'd have to get really close to see it. Yay!

 My Jewish cabinet is now on this wall.  Menorah from Ralph and Viv, yarmulke crocheted by Jackie, wooden menorah and the doors for the cabinet = me.

I use crates as a nightstand - it works, don't judge. LOL.  I've got place for books, bottles of water, DVDs, etc.
