Living room Floor - day 3

Day 3 (we took a day off)

The damage revealed once we got the old tiles up.  No way we could put tile down on top of this stuff.

And only my sister does renovation projects in striped purple socks and fuzzy house shoes

We chiseled out some of the damaged pressboard subfloor and then pried up the long piece.  We cut out the damaged part of another long board and then cut new boards to fit in the spots.  After chiseling edges to fit with chisels and screwdrivers.

Today I nailed the replacement boards down, cleaned the rest and laid the new tile down

We had supervisors!

I have the edges left to do and some baseboard and threshold work and to clean some of the glue that came up between some of the tiles.

Living Room Floor

We were going to replace the broken press on tiles in the living room and bought a box of 50 squares.  We then decided to just do the entire floor and make it look a hell of a lot better than the paint and spackle splattered broken faux brick tiles.

To get the driveway regraded and the tile, I gave up a plan for the Alice Cooper concert this month.  Those who know us know what a sacrifice that is!

So we worked at getting a lot of the tiles up yesterday.  My sister worked at them today and I began laying the new tiles.

note the old brick tile compared to the shiny new, clean pattern

once we got the brick up, we were left with a sticky base (yeah, we had it checked, the old tiles aren't asbestos tiles)

Oliver

We received word from our former neighbor that our Oliver has passed on. He had decided that he preferred staying at her house with frequent visits to us. When we left CA she adopted him. He would watch over the kittens of the neighborhood, babysitting while mama-cats had a break and would encourage them to walk and climb. He was a handsome and unusual boy.

One Year Anniversary

A year ago on the 12th, we arrived at our new home.  After a very rough trip across the country, we arrived exhausted and glad the trip was done.  Finding the place was hard! I couldn't find my directions and it was Sunday in a small southern town.  Nothing was open except the mini=mart and he wasn't a local.

Finally found a fire station and asked.  The young man looked at my map and said we couldn't get there from my map and gave us directions, thank HaShem!

Addy - age 15 yrs

A year ago yesterday Mom and I loaded all the cats in various carriers and cages into the small Bronco, checked the tied down luggage up top and then put Addy and SuSu the dogs behind the seats in front of the cages and started out across country.

We arrived at our new home on the 12th.

Today we took Addy to the vet for the last time.  The blindness and deafness hadn't hampered her much but the arthritis and age finally did and she could no longer stay on her feet and she was obviously uncomfortable.

We love you, Addy

Mutant Marigolds and The End of Carpet

Mom fed her marigold plants with some of that Miracle Gro stuff.  Now we have mutant marigolds that are about 2 inches shy of 2feet tall.

that is our floor after ripping up the thrashed carpet, cleaning the floor, painting it with a "fossil gray" paint, then red splotches, then dark green with gold highlights.  We're already breathing better
